My shiny cafe has got even shinier than ever. Colourful lights are splashed on the walls, covering the tables, beaming in air and suddenly I realised my weekend job is over. I am a ‘Lighting Engineer’ but I change my profession as and when the need arises. For instance, I become an event planner the moment I see my kid's birthdays marked in the calendar in the current month. Thank god! None of the birthdays are in the first week of the month. If it were, I would have been left with less than a week's time to plan for the birthday. The last birthday of my youngest kid was the most memorable one for all the bad reasons. I rented nice tents, grills, ropes and several survival kits to give the venue an actual look of a forest. The only problem was the venue was my own backyard lawn. On top of that I forgot to plan for artificial lights during the darkest hours I mean in the evening and night. Later on I tried to justify my lack planning by saying, "The camping theme looks more real when the lawn is as dark as the forest". Please don’t try to tell me, what kind of kid would like to eat home cooked grilled food on birthdays. My son complained immediately after the birthday. I comforted him by saying next year’s birthday will be ‘Mind Blowing’ and you will be beyond happy to see it. Believe me after that I have spent my whole year analysing kid’s birthday parties. Conclusion, children seem to love playing games, jumping around, sliding through a giant slide etc. The latest catching up trend turned out to be renting a ‘Bouncy House’.
